When shipping files from one location to another (across a WAN link),is it possible to ship the file to a network pathed server rather than directly connected devices?

We currently have to pass the file from the remote location to the directly connected device and then use something called 2nd copy to move it to the network area.

Help please

Reamin positive. The affect on those around you will amaze.

IIRC, you can NFS mount drives in VMS, so if the machine is visible from the source machine
MACHINE::DUA0::[PATH]

Alternatively you could implement an FTP service, and FTP the files across an open connection.

It's been a while, sorry if it's of no assist

Spend an hour a week on CPAN, helps cure all known programming ailments ;-)

In addition to NFS mounting (BTW, the syntax for an NFS volume is DNFSu:[dir...], not MACHINE::DUA0::[PATH]), You can NFS serve (export) the VMS volumes
to other systems, and access it from the "other" side.
If Your network side is Windows, there is SAMBA available for VMS, presenting the VMS volume as a Windows network drive.
