smah,
Thanks for the quick reply. You were right on... I had obviously lost my profile. Interestingly... I have never looked at that Mail icon in Control Panel before!

When I opened up MS Outlook 2002 this morning there was nothing there!! After some panic... I found the file Outlook.pst and I imported it back into Outlook which retrieved all my messages, contacts,...etc.
However, I did lose the setup for all my email accounts as well as the many rules...
Earlier today I installed Media Player 10 and since then I have been having problems with my computer momentarily freezing! My OS is WinXP Pro SP2.

This is a follow-up...
I went out and bought a USB floppy drive (wonder why we still call them floppy drives!!) and a USB CDrom. The BIOS (ver 1.03) does allow for a boot from a floppy connected via USB. So I was able to boot up the computer this way. Once I was able to get in I got past the...
I am into photography and download from various sites pictures that I find interesting. Most sites have their pictures in jpg format, which is fine for me.

I just managed to really screw up a Compaq laptop (Evo N400c model) that was given to my wife by her company, when she left them. The laptop was part of their corporate domain and so I decided to change the setup so that I could incorporate it into our home network workgroup. However after doing...

linney,
I read the Microsoft article and tried to set up the Recovery Console. However, when I try to run the \i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons command from my CD it tells me that "Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on my computer is newer than the version on the CD". I guess this...

Just a follow-up... When I realized what the error message was saying "Not resetting system file" I realized that I had to change the attrib command to attrib -S -H C:\windows\filename.dat. This worked and I was then able to delete all the files. Before I did this I copied the non-hidden dat...
Yes, System Restore has been turned off and I have tried in SAFE mode and tried to delete the files. I also tried by starting in Safe mode with Command Prompt (or whatever it's called!) and tried to change the file attribute of one of the particular files (attrib -H C:\windows\filename.dat)...
I need some help... I have a major trojan issue going on with one of the kids' computers. There are about 5,000 dat files created in the Windows and System32 directories.

Unfortunately, I was not able to run any programs (because of the problem) and therefore unable to uninstall...
Success at last!!!
