I was having some problems with my network setup so I ran WinsockxpFix and it has caused a problem with Google Desktop Search! I have a WinXP Pro SP2 system and I am getting the following Google Desktop Search error message:

Google Desktop Search has detected a problem with your network setup. A recently installed program may have overridden the Google Desktop Search network module. Google Desktop Search will not work correctly….. The following information may help identify the problem…

MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP]
%systemroot%\system32\mswsock.dll
MSAFD Tcpip [UDP/IP]
MSAFD Tcpip [RAW/IP]
RSVP UDP Service Provider
%systemroot%\system32\rsvpsp.dll

The only program I have installed recently was WinsockxpFix so I have to assume that this is the issue. Unfortunately I didn't choose to backup the registry at that time!(I know, I know... please no I told you so's ...)

So my question: Is there a way to uninstall WinsockxpFix?

Does anyone know how to adjust the parameters of the registry to get around the Google problem?

You can use Add/Remove programs to remove Google Desktop. Then Start, Run, cmd
netsh winsock reset catalog

Restart when your receive a message that a restart is required.

Reinstall Google Desktop.

WinsockFix should not be used on SP2: faq779-4625

As usual... thank you for the quick and helpful response. That fixed my problem.
