Thanks for the input. The problem is that this is only happening to one client, so that almost eliminates the chance of it being server related. I tried the suggestion to delete ~*.* but no luck there. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Thanks for the info. However, I'd like the link to open the original file rather than download it. This is because it is a shared workbook that multiple users need to be able to modify. Is there a way to use the link to open the the document itself and not create duplicate copies?

Yeah, it started with SP1 and so we updated with SP2 and still are getting the error.
