Guest,
If this is an Exam question, you might benefit MORE from trying a little something on your own:
1.) Download the ORKTOOLS.exe from the Microsoft Office Resource Kit website.
2.) Setup MS Office 2000 using the following:
"setup.exe /a"
This let's you setup office on a...
Rookcr,
It's a fact: Your users will need "local" admin rights, (in some cases - Power User), to install some software for their use. Either install the software while logged on as the local Administrator, or use the "Run As" command to do so logged on as the user.
Some...
schase,
Try this:

2.) From the boot menu, select "Last Known Good Configuration" by using the arrow keys, and hit ENTER.

longlivegoku,
If it is "*.jpeg" files that you want to open, be ware that there is a default handler for these, it's called Internet Explorer! But this can be easily changed, as rudeboyjeff indicated...

JamesBoag,
Make sure that you are "hand-shaking" with your VPN...you'll need to be running PPP, in addition to your NOC Protocol, or whatever serves up the VPN pipe your using. Often times, the message you're getting is generated because for some reason, (usually binding problems)...
MarkConchie,
Whenever IPX/SPX is installed, it adds a key in the registry with a value. Because of this, Netware attempts to provide the passwords first, instead of the Microsoft Client. Try this:
Search the registry for "autologon", without the quotes.
When you find the value...
gbl,
I haven't read the article you pointed out, but I will share my own thoughts:
Because you MUST use NTFS in order to use the EFS, you're already more secure than most laptops that don't opt for NTFS.
Assigning NTFS level permissions to data on a laptop for instance, means that if the...
PAUL79,
It's just a hunch -
You may want to check with your ISP, to find out if they are using "DHCP" to assign your NAT router's address. Because you mentioned 3 days, (the default length of time most Windows NT DHCP Servers assign leased addresses for), I suspect this might be the...
spargel33,

I need a bit more info, but let me suggest some basics here first:
1.) Ensure that the drive letter for the CD Burner drive is shared, by double-clicking the "My Computer" icon, and then right-clicking the drive letter for the CD Burner. Then choose "Sharing" from...
Dirk,
Ok, let's try this:
From the XP box, click "Start", then "Run", then type:
cmd
and hit ENTER. This opens a DOS box. Now, type:
net view
and hit enter. It may take a moment, but you should at least see the Windows 98 computername listed, together with a share...
Dirk,
Ok! Two things:
1.) Let's ensure that on both the Windows 98, and XP machines, we check to see if the NIC's, (Network Interface Controllers), are being "put to sleep" by the power management console:
a.) From Device Manager, right click the NIC, and choose...
qbasicking,
I think you're on the right track, but you may need to "Browse", in order to select the correct program to open *.bas files. Additionally, ensure that you check the "Always use this program blah, blah,blah.." choice.

jexster,
If your c drive was formatted using NTFS, and you are booting up the system with a Windows 98 diskette, (or something like it), your c drive may not be recognized, and likely, the boot diskette will make a RAM Drive, and call it "C".
Is this what is happening?
Do you have a...
Dirk,
Ok, great!
It sounds like we're on the right track...now:
1.) 192.168.0.1, is a "Class C" address, so your "Subnet Mask should be:
255.255.255.0
...in order to use the "default" for that network.
Let's make sure that each PC that participates in your Network...
GCANO,
Good advise from Sun...there are several "worm" type viruses out there as well as variants that can do the damage you speak of - one of them is "Sircam".
Trend Micro, has a free PC scan from the web, and a weekly newsletter one can subscribe to. Additionally, they...
Dirk,
1.) The first thing we need to do, is to ensure that your Network Cards are working.
2.) Next, let's take a look at the TCP/IP "stack": You need to have at least 3 things to communicate with TCP/IP:
a.) Working Network Card.
b.) A "Client", such as Client for...
