Do you run CICS v5 on HP? What's your maxssiz set to?

We have PTF 4 at the moment with the ifix and have just received word from Mincom this morning that we need to apply PTF 6 to correct another problem that we're having in another region. So that's on the slate here pretty darn quick :) Also, the message is usually something like this...

Do you run CICS v5 on HP? What's your maxssiz set to?

Thanks for the followup. We upped our maxssiz last reboot anyway - seems to have reduced the aborts, but hasn't eliminated them. As a curiosity, what is your maxssiz set to? We have a couple of other parameters less than what yours are set to, I might have to do a little more research on them...

Restricting access to the database dependent upon access method

Well, well, I had another look this morning, and now both program and module are reporting "CVORA8.EXE", which gives me something to play with. Now, writing login triggers is not something I've done before - would someone have an example of a trigger at login that checks the program and/or...

Restricting access to the database dependent upon access method

One of the application administrators set foot in my office today (how dare he!) and started off a question with "In the SQL Server World....". Apparently, in SQLServer, there is a way to say that if user Bob is trying to connect through MS-Excel, then we allow it, but if he tries to connect in...

DBD::Oracle issue with Oracletool perl script

(This is probably more Perl related, and I've posted the same message in the Perl forum, but in case anyone here uses the tool and has come across this before - or a similar problem) I use a tool called OracleTool (http://www.oracletool.com) to help with certain DBA functions on my Oracle...

    DBD::Oracle issue with perl script

I use a tool called OracleTool (http://www.oracletool.com) to help with certain DBA functions on my Oracle databases. I had been happily plodding along on oracletool 2.0 for that last 2 years, I visited the site and saw that there was a newer version, version 2.2. So I downloaded and installed...

Do you run CICS v5 on HP? What's your maxssiz set to?

We run CICS/TX-Series 5 (CICS at PTF 4, Encina to PTF 3) on HP-UX 11.11 with Oracle 9. In one of our regions, we keep getting core dumps in /var/cics_regions/<region> for that region. We've been wondering what's been causing them and I think I finally found a connection yesterday. I was...

    Free tool to browse database

Have you tried Oracletool? It's free, completely server based and has a page to enter executable SQL. Speaking of which, it's time to update my copy to the latest version. Steve

    Delete / Truncate takes forever

Dave, Thanks for the reply. Actually, you are right, we are using DMT. I'm in the process of doing a reorg for LMT with uniform extent sizes over several different tablespaces based upon size of the objects. I ended up going to see a play this afternoon, after I posted the first message in...

    Delete / Truncate takes forever

I've got two tables in one of my databases each currently with 102,650 extents. At one stage, they had a lot of rows in them, but now they have very few. I want to reclaim this space drop exporting, dropping, recreating and importing them. However, it's the truncate and delete that I'm...

    ELLipse versus SAP R/3

On a lark, I went to this page and did a little research. if you're really keen to read it do this: Go here: http://world.altavista.com/ Enter the web address above into the "Translate Web Page" field, select Russian to English and go. It presented me a page in English - don't know how good...

Pass Windows path as argument to script called by EXEC

I did a little test on this. Looks like you can escape the "\" to pass a "\" through to your script: Report1 MSR010 MSR010 -Description Table_File_Report -Report A Report1 MSR010 EXEC -PARAM sjwtest 'c:\\program files' The script sjwtest looks like this: echo $1 $2 $3 >...

TP Error: Version mismatch for shared memory

Yeah, I had the rm *mmap* epiphany on Saturday evening before I'd seen this post. That was the missing link in my puzzle. Thanks stephen.wales@riotinto.com

TP Error: Version mismatch for shared memory

I'm doing some work on an old machine that is running HPUX 10.20, Oracle 733, MIMS 4.1 and TP 2o (told you it was old :)) Was trying to copy to a testing machine - and couldn't get the 2o to compile. Had a tar of a 1r TP lying about so I thought to myself "Self, let's try to install that"...

    Help with troubleshooting a query

As an aside, each of the views in the above query is made up of, effectively: select * from table a, security_view b where a.dstrct_code = b.dstrct_code which makes sure that each user can only select data from authorized districts. Running the query against the base table runs in < 1 minute...

    Help with troubleshooting a query

We have a production database used mostly for OLTP and a few batch jobs and then a replicated copy of the prod database that ad-hoc queries run again. One of the query developers has come to me with a problem. Her query runs in about a minute on the replicated database and runs for 30 minutes...

    Oracle Auditing

Well, the auditor we had in gave a very vague finding that we need to set Audit options to audit what the DBA's are doing. So, I've been instructed to set up auditing of what effectively is actions taken by me and my colleague. From the research I've done to date, tracking what I do in the...

    Oracle Auditing

So the Internal Auditors decided that we need to do a little more Oracle Auditing than we are now. So, I did the following: In init.ora: audit_trail = db audit_sys_operations = true I bounced the instance. When the instance came back up: audit dba, resource whenever successful; audit all...

Taking and 8.1.6 hot backup and recovering to 9.2

Just FYI for those who may be curious. I took a cold backup of an old 8.1.7 database / HP 11.0 Restored it on my test server 9.2.0.5 / HP 11.11 CREATE CONTROLFILE SET "<db>" RESETLOGS NOARCHIVELOGS completed OK. On ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS I got: ERROR at line 1: ORA-01092: ORACLE...

Taking and 8.1.6 hot backup and recovering to 9.2

Because they run in their datacenter HPUX 11.0, Ora 8.1.6. We run in ours HPUX 11.11, Ora 9.2. We're taking them on board from a Disaster Recovery standpoint to setup an emergency site for them in the case of total loss. They want to try to leverage our existing setup I suppose :) Personally...
