In your client side Add the entry of Server in the TNSNAMES.ORA file.
You need the Host name, Port no and SID name of the server.
This will work.

In Oracle 9i, you can use lsnrctl as well.
Create a listner and then create a tnsnames.ora file from sample file.
Just change the host name, protocol (if u specify different in listener configuration).
It will work.
If u have not created the database during the installation I suggest u should...
Well I dont know much about developer 2000,

Hi pomeroys,
I dont know this will work or not.
You should look into the object navigator.
This Report may have wrong setting in the layout model.

Hi Faizeq
You can use formula column in the report builder to get data from a column or no.of columns of table or tables.
You can perform some Operation on the database column
and return the value and u can then display this value in the report.
The report will be totally dynammic.

You can use simple SQL in the Report and call the function in the query ( if the function is a database function).

Or you should alter the profile and disable password verification function.
You can see this on about any oracle book.
i think u should install report 6i and then oracle 8i.
the service of report server must be started manually.
you should try to make a tns.
it really helps.
and also there port no should not be same.
i think having same port nos doesnt work.
i had the same problem.
i think u should use the select into clause if u want to insert data from the file into form.
then use the commit_form or simply commit to save the data from the form into table.
you can write
select field into :block_name.item_name from
table;
I hope this works.
