Figured it out. It was the latest version of the Novell Client. Went back one version and it doesn't close unexpectedly any more. It had nothing to do with:
Symantec Endpoint Protection
DEP
Installation method (shortcut to SoftConsole.exe works fine for all users)
Outlook 2007
Windows XP 32...
I do not see those options on install at all. I'm checking the logs for various programs and Event Viewer. I will figure this out and post what it turns out to be.

I uninstalled and started the installation program and there is no option for all users. There is Typical and Custom. I tried both and no choice for install for all users. There is only Languages and SoftConsole under Custom.

Thanks for responding. It is XP 32 SP3. The only difference is SP3 and new AV software. I guess I'll rebuild it from scratch without those components and see if that cures the issue.

I replaced our 2 receptionists PCs with new ones and installed SoftConsole and it just disappears after logging in. I tried the -debug command and the log is not helpful at all. I excluded the Avaya directory from our AV SW and excluded softconsole.exe from DEP.
Any troubleshooting advice...
