New PSU, Computer won't turn on!

Ok, crisis averted. I simply took the whole thing apart and reassembled. I guess something wasn't seated correctly!

New PSU, Computer won't turn on!

Ok, so a few weeks ago we had a bad power outage, and as the power was in the process of going out, it flickered off and on many times. Anyhow, my PSU fried and I bought a new one. It just came in today, I pulled it out of the box, popped it in, connected everything, and now my computer is...

    Write Protection on Flash Drive

Ok, so I bought a Memorex 512MB falsh drive awhile back, but I haven't had much use for it until recently. So I pop it in, and it comes up as two drives! One for storage, and one that runs a program whenever I plug it in... I don't like the program, and would prefer the drive be like my 1GB...

    Computer Won't Turn On!

Also, as for a little insight as to why my PSU was failing. I took it apart, and I found 6 bulging capacitators... But bad news for my mom's. When her PSU blew, it apparently jolted the motherboard, because not only was her PSU fried, but there are about 7 or 8 bulging caps on her mobo too...

    Computer Won't Turn On!

Thanks for the info, but don't worry about the research. PROBLEM SOLVED!!! My mother and I went to a local PC store and bought a PSU, more or less for debugging purposes. We bought the only kind they had (small store). Here's a page about it...

    Computer Won't Turn On!

Thanks for the advice and the link. Any info on how good an X-Connect PSU is? I want to go modular, any other recommendations, other than X-Con?

    Computer Won't Turn On!

Well, I took it in to Bestbuy yesterday, and the guy said they'd have a look at my capacitors and mobo and see if anything was obviously blown (which I'd already done) for free, but to get the to do a full "diagnostic" test on it it would be $70... And their test was simply trading out...

    Computer Won't Turn On!

Ok guys, here's another one to look over. A few days ago (I just found out today), my mom's computer did basically the same thing. We've not had any power surges or anything that could fry both of our PSUs. So that, too, has me baffled. Anyhow, on the note of it possibly overheating: it's...

    Computer Won't Turn On!

When I got home from school today, my desktop (which I never turn off) is off. I figure my mom's been using it or whatever and turned it off, so I go to turn it back on. I press the button, my computer comes on for a second, then goes back off. My keyboard and mouse are still on though, and...

    Ram Upgrade Question

Ok well, here's more specifics, sorry I didn't post them earlier, I was in a bit of a rush. I have an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ 2.1GHz, with an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe mobo, and I was wondering if I should buy a 512MB stick of Kingston PC3200 RAM for $99, or a 1GB stick of Kingston PC2700 RAM for $129...

    Ram Upgrade Question

Ok, I was wondering which was the best thing to get. My options are either a 512MB PC3200 stick, or a 1GB PC2700 stick for $30 more. I'm currently running a stick of 512MB PC3200, and I wasn't sure if I could mix 3200 and 2700 (even though they are just frequencies), or which of my two options...

    autoexec.nt Problems!

Ok, first fof, I have XP Home Ed. but I couldn't find the forums for it... Hope that doesn't change anything. Well, when I attempt to go into a dos window (such as going to Start>Run>command, or Start>Run>edit msdos.sys), I get an error that reads: 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem...

    CPU/Mobo Upgrade

Paparazi Thanks, that's the mobo I was mainly looking at, the A8N-E. And yes, I'm aware that it is not that great of a leap to go to a Athlon64 3500+ from my XP2800+, so I may hold off, and save up to get a 4000+ or something a bit more powerful. And I agree with the NForce chipset being...
