Ok, first fof, I have XP Home Ed. but I couldn't find the forums for it... Hope that doesn't change anything.

Well, when I attempt to go into a dos window (such as going to Start>Run>command, or Start>Run>edit msdos.sys), I get an error that reads:

16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SUTCOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

It has done this since I recieved the computer (I had it built by CyberPowerInc.com back in December. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! If you guys are unsure about how to fix the problem, this may the the final straw, leading to a reformat...

Did you try to copy the file
c:\windows\repair\autoexec.nt
to c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt ?

PalmTest,
Thank you, that worked. I wasn't even aware there *was* a
'repair' folder, to copy anything from!

linney,
Thank you anyway for your offered help.

included,

I'm glad that you managed to get the problem sorted, however if you don't currently have any malware scanners installed it would be worth following some of the links linney gave you. There are several pieces of malware out there that cause the problem you were experiencing and it would be better to be safe than sorry.
