Monitor software won't connect 2

We just installed 11.1 on a brand new control unit and I can't get Monitor to connect. I've tried UDP/TCP with the default password and no password, using HTTP with both the system and Administrator accounts, but it always says "trying to connect to <ip address>".

I went to Manager->File->Advanced->Security Settings. Then System->Unsecured Interfaces and set a new Monitor password there. When I click Save, it prompts me for a username and password. I can use either the Administrator or security credentials here and that makes that dialog go away, but I'm never prompted for a Merge/Immediate/Timed box, which seemed curious.

I tried adding a new user account this way (so I'm not always using the Administrator account) and after saving (again with no Merge/Immediate/Timed dialog) if I connect to the security settings again I can see my new username listed in the left pane, but I can never seem to authenticate using those credentials. This makes me wonder if these changes are actually merging with the control unit.

I've tried rebooting via File->Advanced->Reboot but that didn't seem to make a difference either. Surely I'm overlooking something, but I don't know what.

Maybe worth mentioning is that when we initially were prompted to set the Administrator, security, and system passwords it never took for some reason. We had to go in using the web interface and then we were able to change them from the defaults.

Thanks for the help

That sounds like your security settings may have become corrupted. Have you tried defaulting the security settings and trying?

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

With 11.1 the password length required for Monitor is now 9 characters, up one from 8 as it always has been. Since we are used to the 8 character password we initially set a 9 character password to get past the startup screen then go into Security settings to modify the password length back down to 8.

Thanks for the help. My passwords are greater than 9 characters, so I don't think that was the issue this time. With the trouble we had setting the passwords initially, I was hesitant to nuke them and start over in case we somehow got stuck with the default ones. Maybe I'll give that a try when we have a day off in case things go south.

I am facing the same identical issue, before defaulting the security settings (system upgraded from 11.0 to 11.1 FP2) Monitor connection was ok, now absolutely no way, setting up the Monitor password neither !

Just for info, problem clarified: after the security settings factory default all the unsucured interfaces are cleared out, the Devlink setting (used by SysMon) has to be thicked on.

Thanks everyone. Over spring break I reset the security settings, ticked the Devlink setting, and switched to TCP on monitor and I was able to connect with the password I set up in Manager->File->Advanced->Security Settings->System->Unsecured Interfaces.
