Hiya,

Just got a new SV9100 and am nearing the end of the configuration. 1 of my last challenges is to have an external paging source connected. This runs into an overhead paging system, with an amp, and is currently used by the existing phone system. I just want to move the cable from the AMP, and wire it up however I need to, into the SV9100.

When I was quoted the PBX, I was told that I could use the on-board CONTROL RELAY port to do this. I don't think it matters, but I am also running a MOH system, that is currently working fine. I've checked the manuals and a few other resources, but am not quite sure how to clearly make this work. I have no preference in how the activation of the external paging works, I just want it to work. I just want the users to be able to press a button or dial a code to activate paging, then hang up to stop it.

Can anyone confirm that this is possible without the add-on paging module and also how to accomplish this? I am running SIP trunks and SIP phones.

From the features and specifications manual.....

The UNIVERGE SV9100 system allows up to eight External Paging zones, or a common zone
output provided by the CPU (Speaker 9). All other speakers (1~8) require a port on a
PGD(2)-U10 ADP, with a maximum of two external paging circuits per module. You must have
four PGD(2)-U10 ADPs to get the eight external zones. In addition, each external zone has an
associated relay contact. When a user pages to a zone, the corresponding contact activates
(closes). This provides for Paging amplifier control.

Also....

10-21-04 GCD-CP10 Hardware Setup – External
Source I/O Selection on GCD-CP10
Define how the I/O ports on the GCD-CP10 are
used.
0 = External MOH (AUX2)/
External Speaker(AUX1)
1 = BGM source (AUX2)/
External Speaker(AUX1)
2 = External MOH (AUX2)/
BGM source (AUX1)
 Relationships between AUX
number and Relay number are as
follows:
AUX2 = Relay2
AUX1 = Relay1

So yes it can be done with just the CPU. However I suggest you also use a line isolation device to be on the safe side.

Fair enough. I did run across that info in the Features and Specs manual, but still wasn't quite clear on how to accomplish an external page. The 9100 is set as default to enable AUX1 as the speaker. Thanks for pointing me in that direction; I thought I'd be using the CONTROL RELAY port. I have the amp and speaker plugged into AUX1, and am going to play around to see if I can get it to work. But any pointers for activation? I'll post back with an answer, if I figure this out. Thanks again.

That was easy. I went into 11-12-20 and set an access code for External Page. Then went to my phone, dialed *8, 1 (group 1), then I hear a pretty beep, say my overhead page, and then hang up. Thanks again!
