Consolidating to a single CM but how to address 911??? 1

we're migrating an office from their S8300 to our Core CM, an S8800. we're porting their DID's, the station import is easy, network region and map is cake, but how do I handle 911? I can change programming to outpulse their local DID number but their phones are going to be registered to Jersey while the office sits in Delaware. Anyone have to deal with this before and not have to buy a product, just set up the routing in CM somehow.

Local gateway with at least one POTS line and use location based routing to route all 911 calls from Delaware to the POTS line.

Or buy an E911 system like Redsky or something similar.

Gateway goes away. That's the whole point of consolidating them and porting their DID's. I don't have budget to buy an E911 system.

you wont have 911 then. Best bet is to leave the gateway behind without the S8300 and 1 pots line. Register it to the core. You'll need the gateway anyway if you have any fax machines there.

For multiple locations with consolidated trunks, you will need to register a DID as the Screened-Telephone-Number (sometimes referred to as the billable number or even something else) as the number of record for that address. Your carrier should be able to help you with that. This step is IMPORTANT since this is how Emergency Services will know the correct address.

In CM, create a station to use as the Emergency Location Extension. This can be a virtual station to avoid using up station licenses.
In the IP-Network-Mapping, assign the ELE to the correct IP address and network-region for the office.

For example, Office 1 (Location 1, Network Region 1) will use 1001 as the ELE and 212 555 1212 as the STN.
Office 2 (Location 2, Network Region 2) will use 1002 as the ELE and 508 555 1111 as the STN.

On the Station form bottom of Page 2, change the "Always use" to "n" to allow the station to get the ELE from the network-map. This is for IP stations. Digital and Analog stations get their location from the Media-Gateway or you can assign the ELE directly to the station and set "always use" to "y".

Change the Public-Unknown-Numbering or Private-Unknown-Numbering (depending on the type of trunk) so the ELE sends out the correct DID.

How to test
Add an entry to the ARS table for your mobile number or other outside number and set as a normal call:

If your carrier cannot handle 911 calls for the "other office", you may want to leave a media-gateway at that location and pay for one or two POTS lines just for 911. This is fairly inexpensive and will keep 911 calls local.

ZeroZeroOne has laid out a pretty good plan for you. But you will need your carrier to be able to handle emergency call routing based upon a number's PPU (Primary Point of Use)and for the carrier to be able to supply numbers from the local area where the PSAP is that the emergency call needs to go.

Using the PPU's isn't difficult usually. Most carriers now can do PPU based emergency call routing. But sometimes it's not very easy to get numbers local to an area if that area is served by a mom and pop telco and your carrier hasn't built out a Point of Presence there yet. In those cases you probably will need to maintain a media gateway of some sort just for emergency services but that gateway can also be leveraged as an LSS for local survivability. Getting rid of the hardware at a remote site doesn't provide a great cost savings usually since it can simply be repurposed. It's getting rid of all the extra circuits is where the dramatic cost savings come from.
