I was on my IBM 360 WIN ME laptop last night trying to download some financial data when my ZoneAlarm instantiated itself (I didn't have it running because it slows the system down so much) put up a warning page and absolutely blocked my further accessing the internet via Explorer until I reset my ZoneAlarm to start on bootup.
I was also blocked from using the control panel to remove the ZoneAlarm software. In the end I deleted the ZoneAlarm software myself and was able then to reaquire internet access. I have no idea what caused this. I don't care. I will, however, be looking elsewhere for a firewall.

Curious behaviour from ZoneAlarm.

I've never seen this type of behaviour in over 5 years of running the product on Win98, Win2000 or WinXP. Perhaps the TrueVector service was still running?

I haven't had that problem with Zonealarm. About the only trouble that I had was upgrading one time and I did have trouble with the truevector, but was helped on this forum.
I did have a lot of trouble with ME when I had it. I will never forgive Bill Gates for the h@#$ that ME put me through.
I even tried Zonealarm Pro, but it seemed to slow my 'puter down quite a bit, so I didn't buy it. And then when the trial was over, they let me revert back to the free version without any trouble.

Never seen a problem even on ME with ZA . I run it at home with with ME and it doesn't slow it down at all . I do have a little more ram than the usual ME user at 192 meg so maybe that helps.

sounds like you have a trojan or a virus on ayou pc.

To All Who've Responded,

Thanks for the input. The 360 refered to is getting a little long in the tooth but is's all I can afford right now.
I'd like to upgrade to XP but I'm not sure (meaning I haven't really researched it) if I can with only 96 meg of ram. I think I'd better check on some Mcaffe software though.

Thanks, Bill Kilgore
