I tried to zip Illustrator-10 files, but result is almost zero compressing. My WinZip is O.K. - it compresses other formats, but can do nothing with Ai-10 files. Can anybody advise me?
Thanks - Andrew.

I don't have any AI10 files to try with, but i was able to find a AI 8.0 file to try and it compressed down really well. Do you have any images in the file? Like did you import an image and working with the vectors over it? its pretty odd that an illustrator file doesn't zip since its basically a text file.

Some files though don't zip. MPGs, some avi, files and JPG's don't really compress that much because they are already as compressed as possible.

Well I don't know if any of it helps, but just my thoughts on the subject.

Illustrator 10 files do have built in compression. When you Save As... and click save, you are presented with a few options, one of which is compression.

If you would rather use WinZip, then turn this off first, because they both use similar compression algorithms, and therefore, cannot make any significant improvement on an already compressed file. However, you would probably be better off leaving this option on and forgetting about zipping it, because it cuts out one whole process, saving time for you and whoever else might need to open your files.
