I am working with a Windows 2000 Server with ZenWorks 4.01 Imaging services installed en running eDirectory 8.6.2.
I want to start a multicast session with preboot services.
I am unable to connect to the server using a PXE boot disk.
Also am I unbale to create a multicast session on the server in Console One, I have an image, but the server doesn t see the image file. What is the problem here¿¿¿

We have a simalar setup except we have upgraded to 2003 servers running edir with zen 4. The bigest problem we have run into is the NDS console and the imaging server control for multicast sessions will only show up on the Console, that is to say the screen physically attached to the server. With 2003 it is a bit better since you can use a shortcut or run command to connect to the 'console'. "mstsc /console /v:%server%"

However that does not help you with windows 2000. You would have to physically get to the server in order to send out a multi cast.

You could however pull the image directly to one workstation and have it host the Session. Once the machine is imaged how you want it reboot into the linux enviroment and the esiest way is to just type the following command: "img session %session_name% Master"

-- OR upgrade! oh the joy of upgrades! --

About the PXE boot disk issue I don't have a lot of experince... If our NIC's support it we boot directly from the network, running the preboot services on the windows box with edir, or we use a boot cd rom with support for our NIC. we can then attach to the server and pull an image directly or via multicast. Another thought is that if you are running DHCP on the Same box as PDHCP there are issues that we have not been successful in working around. Thus we have two servers at each site. One running DHCP and the other running the ZEN preboot componets.

<rant> What Novell needs to do is make their console and imaging control app open under a normal TS connection, but that would just make to much sense, wouldn't it </rant>

Hope the info helps someone... remember: It's not a bug it's a feature!

Hello Munkie,

It has been a long time ago that i had this problem and it is already solved, with a lot of problems, on windows it was running, only not with PXE.
This was in a test environment.
We now have a server in a real environment, installed NetWare 6 with SP4, eDirectory 8.6.2 with SP4 and ZenWorks for Desktops 4.01, this server only serves for imaging and we have no problems with this server, we can connect using boot diskettes, boot cds and we also use PXE boot, all works well, I only had a problem with the DHCP server and the PDHCP server. The PDHCP server loaded before the DHCP server and took the IP database so the DHCP server could not connect to this IP database and could not hand out IP addresses, I solved the problem by loading the DHCP server in an earlier fase during the boot of the server and all works well.
In this environment we do work with Windows 2000 server with eDirectory and ZenWorks for workstation management, we have some problems with it but the main part is working stable, only the Middle Tier servers loose their connection at some times and we have to restart the servers, first this was on an hourly base and I could manage it to go to a weekly base, so we put a script in the servers to restart once a week and it works well
