Hi all,

I have this portable harddisk which has "died".
No important data is on it. So experimenting with the disk for educational purposes is no problem.
I have opened the disk to check what the clicking noise exactly was.
I have made a short video of this:

What could be the cause of this ?

Thanks all,..

You have a hard drive that wishes it was a metronome.

I have a 250 GB WD.

It was my DATA drive on my desktop.

Same noise.
I all my data on it.
Is there a fix ?
Do these Recovery Data company's bleed the heck out of you?

They don't bleed you, they diffuse the cash from your wallet.
The last one I was involved with cost a customer $3000 for 2 partitions on a 1gb SCSI drive.

Hi

The head / preamplifier stage has issues and as such requires replacement.

Hope this helps.

Hi all,

First of all this is more an experiment to me...
Indeed it might be the heads who are damaged...
Or it might be the circuitboard....

I'm looking for an identical disk for replacement parts. I will let know the results on this forums by the way and post vids on youtube,....

hddrepair, why do you think it are the heads and not the circuit board?
