Hi there

We're having problems with one person's access to email. She can connect to
everything on the network, but for some reason, I cannot get her inbox to
open from her machine. I've tried it on another machine, and that accesses
it okay.

A message similar to this appears...

"Your Microsoft Exchange Server is Unavailable. The network did not respond
in a timely fashion to determine the existence of an Exchange Server."

I've tried extending the timeout period. I've also checked and all IP and
mail settings appear to be as they should.

Any ideas please.
Thanks in advance
Miguel

Have you tried deleting her profile from outlook and adding it back? Can you ping the Exchange Server from her workstation?

If the server is Exchange 2000, ensure the client machine's DNS settings only include the internal DNS. Remove any dns settings pointing to external DNS.

If Exchange 5.5, the above reply should help

yes i've deleted her profile, re-added it and still the same problem. I can ping the server by IP, but when i ping the server by its name, i get the correct IP back but with a request timed out

Hi,

I've run into this before with my Exchange 5.5 server. I resolved it by removing tcp/ip on the workstation and re-adding it after a reboot. This is also found somewhere on the MS Knowledge Base.
