Hey everyone,

I am in a unique position at my work here. I am just curious what your position or title is with Cisco VOIP at your job. Would any of you be willing to give me your job descriptions? I am going to be going through a reclassification with my union (they want to screw me) and need all of the "Ammo" I can bring with me. I would just like to see yours so I can add anything that I may be missing. Please let me know if you would be willing to do this.

Thanks so much.

between many re-org's in my present and past companies, and changes in technology and core responsibities, i have been tagged as:

telecom technician
telecom specialist
telecom analyst
voice engineer
voice network engineer
converged network administrator
converged network specialist
converged network engineer

oh yeah and:
telecom engineer
communications engineer/tech/specialist

and my personal fav:
phone guy

Good luck with the Union. I was a union member for over 20 years before I took my present position. My advancement and pay depended on what my Job Title dictated, not my efforts or accomplishments. I was at the top of the ability chart but got the same increases as the guy at the bottom. AND I got all the difficult projects while he got all the easy stuff. That leads to no incentive for the bottom guy OR the top guy to get better. Union's were excellent in the past but some now are nothing more than a shelter for the lazy and a hindrance to the workers.
I'm sure I'll take some flak for those comments but I'm just speaking from my experience.
BTW, my job title is 'Technical Engineer' now, was 'Data Technician' when I was in the Union.

Thanks guys,

Do you have Job Descriptions you'd be able to get to me? It's a crazy situation. The employer is willing to give me a nice raise, but the for some reason, the union is saying no. It is almost like a role reversal. Fortunately, I am the only person who does my job, so the "low" man isn't around. If I can get your job descriptions, that would be great. I will create an email account on yahoo or something.

Thanks

I started my position a year ago as a Communications Technician, but the title was recently changed to Communications Administrator (less adds/moves, more projects/improvements...) Now if only the name change actually had included a base pay change....

I used to be a Telecommunications Specialist at my last job...but that encompassed voip plus analog. Basically, if it ran over copper and/or you talked into it they threw it my way...

I was also in a union and was also the only person who did my job...I'll have to wait until I get home, but I can give you a job description that I saved the last round of contract negotiations...

TMH

Thanks Jerake,

I too do everything phone related. Both analog and VOIP. Then I also am the Lotus Notes/Domino administrator. Busy busy busy.
