Hi,

I am using Veritas Backup Exec 8.6

I have the error "you have insuffucent rights to run backup exec. you must be either a backup operator or administrator to run backup exec" when i try to run the backup exec console from my windows 2000 professional system, i have local administrator and backup operator.

i have domain backup operator right.

how come i get this error? Anyone can help.

Thank you.

What account is the backup service trying to run as?Right click my computer-manage-services.
When you go into services and go to backup exec(properties) what user account is it trying to run as?
You may need to change the username and password to one which has admin and backup rights.

Sometimes its work creating an account on the domain specifically for the backup service.

The account use is domain administrator.

i have create an account with domain backup operator and login, the moment i run the Veritas Backup exec program from my computer, it show the error as mention.

i don't wish to use an account with domain admin as i am going to pass this account to someone else to monitor.

please help.

thank.

Add the user from the domain you want to monitor the backups to the Local Power users group on the backup exec server.

But do you run the backup MANUALLY or as a JOB? If it's as a job, then it's NOT running as you. JOBs run under the Backup Exec service login.

the backup job is running schedule job.. the service is run under domain administrator account.

i still can't able to open veritas backup exec without using the domain administrator a/c.

Are you having the problem/error when you are logging into Backup Exec? or just when you are trying to run a backup?

This is a permissions issue. To run BE you at least need to be in the local Administrators group on the box that Backup Exec is running on. Backup Operators does not have enough permissions. Otherwise, you will have to use a domain admins based account, there is no way around it.

Hi Qdog,

The Server is a Domain Controller. so what should i do?

Goto ->AD Users and computers -> Built-in and add the user/account to adminsitrator group
Qdog is right...you need some admin rights. This is by design. You wouldnt want a user to install backup exec remote admin on the machine and connect to the server. Or have someone else get into backup exec backup or restore data to anywhere.
