You have attempted to open a database that is in use by someone else, but the database cannot be shared. You must set the location of the .NET control file.
I have checked all the computers that should have access to the Paradox tables, however one folder of tables still comes up with this error. I have logged out all users I have set up, and deleated my common PDOXUSRS.NET file. The paradox tables ( PDOX 10 ) are stored on a Novell server, which shows no one has these files open. I have gone around deleating all PDOXUSRS.NET files I could find on any PC's I checked but am still locked out of this directory of tables.
If anyone know the mechanism of the BDE in regard to this situation in order to determine what is causing this, it would be greatly appriciated. I suspect a rogue computer ( Hacker?) or a failed login etc. hanging up the BDE somehow.

Thanks in advance

First check to make sure the net directory setting in all systems is the same. It must be a location accessible by all workstations. This is set in the BDE administrator, located in the control panel, configuration-drivers-native-paradox. Go to all workstations and remove all .lck and .net files related to paradox. Make sure nobody has the database open when you do this.

Thanks, I found a LCK file in the problem directory. By inspecting it with notepad I see what may be a lock placed on the directory by a local PDOXUSR.NET file. It may have been set by someone logging into a workstation as a different user. ( I will have to check configuration of all users of this workstation ) What is the mechanism of the BDE & file sharing? Deleating this lock file freed up access to the tables to the rest of the network. Does anyone know of a source of documentation on this? Does the BDE place a lock file in the directory of the table being locked? Does this lock all tables in that directory? Is this lock file generated even if a user requests read only access?

Thanks again in advance

BigAndFat,

The FAQ at lays out the basic groundwork. Additional details can be found in but you must remember that the document was originally written when Paradox 4.0 (DOS) was available; therefore, much of the details concerning Paradox 3, the Paradox Engine, and other older technologies are not applicable to the current version of IDAPI.

You may also find helpful as well, though you may need to create a login to access the file.

Hope this helps...
