You do not have exclusive access to the database

I have an Access 2007 database that is built as a front end and back end. It was converted from an Access 97 database. I am running into the “You do not have exclusive access to the database at this time…” message any time I try to open a Form in design mode. I am the only person using the database. My Default Open Mode is set to Exclusive and Default Record Locking is set to Edited Records. I’ve also tried different values for these settings, with no luck. If I close then reopen the front end database, I can edit a form and save changes once or twice, but then if I access some data via some Forms that are in the database, then try to go into design mode of any Form or Report, the error starts coming up again. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

When the frontend is closed, look for files (front- and backend) with an .ldb extension. If you find any, delete them & try again.

A shot in the dark: are you certain that the forms are closed before you go into design view?

Yes, all Forms are closed. I will try the decompile and see what happens.

I have seen that in the past with a DB.

I could not figure it out.

My best guess was some code in Startup or that was run in AutoExec was opening a table or setting an Access Switch or setting.

I finally solved that problem by creating a new, blank database and then importing all of the objects from the problem DB.

Make sure to check the references in the old DB and set them the same in the new DB and after the import, do a Compile.

Well I started from scratch and converted the front and back ends again and all seems to be working so far. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
