Yo, got a question hope someone can enlighten my way on this...

See I got a couple of sticks of Mem, they all appear to be DIMMs or SDRAMs 168 pins two notches... now when I tried to put them in a DIMM socket they didn't fit! I took them out and laid it against a DIMM Memory stick and it didn't match 100% one of the notches (on the short side) was appr. 1mm offset...

Here are the specs on the MEMs:

there is a number printed on a sticker: 1P 530807-Q6130-X-5 (or X000-05) the ram chips carry the number M5M4V17805DTP on one stick and on the other M51V17805D-60

Thanx,

Ben

And the question IS?
Martin Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

Last time I had it happen it was Compaq memory. From something I scrapped.
One way to control the source of upgrades. Ed Fair

Stupid me...

the question is: what are they? seeing as I can't find specs on them, i am reluctant to make a modifycation so that they would fit on the Board and try them out...

edfair: I know for sure that it can't be from a compaq, since I scrapped them out of a Siemens Bin of Computerparts, but stranger things have happened....

Thanx for the INFO though...

Ben

They are either propriatory for whatever reason or special for whatever reason. You can scrap them. Even having them can be dangerous if you get careless and don't notice that one end didn't snap in place.
That could be the way that Siemens controls the specs on replacement memory. It wouldn't add much cost for a special manufacturing run with that board and the world would be locked into it. Ed Fair

Looks like it is 168pin ECC EDO memory. Jim

Please come back and let us know if your
problem is fixed and what fixed it!! [thumbsup2]

Thanx guys for the Info, helped a lot... Now I know I can't use them or check them out if they work... aint got a maschine that will accept them...

CU l8ter daze...

Ben

You can get different memory simms with the notches in slightly different possitions.

The reason.....

One notch sets the voltage ie 3.0V or 5.0V simms

The other sets buffered or un-buffered.

It depends on what your mother board needs.
Check your mother board manual or the site for the make of mother board you have.

Thanx Bigjohn...

I just needed the INFO what were... See I am not actually very well informed as to what hardware PCs etc use... my main system of use is an Old but reliable Amiga running at 400 mhz (power PC602) and 64mb (SDRAM) with a PCI bridgeboard with a Voodoo3 2000... I just began delving into the PC hardware world... but thanx anyhow for all the Infos...
