A Windows NT4 workstation is give an error message when it starts up to say one of the services has failed.

when I look in event viewer all it says is service
Ydsg
failed to load.

Please could someone tell me what Ydsxg is?

I'vew found three files

one is a dat file ydsxg
another is a dll
the third is a sys but none of them give any clue as to what they are.

Thanks
Mark

A little info about the system would help.

YDSXG failed to start may be the Yamaha sound built in to some Intel mother boards. Check this in the control panel under multimedia preferred devices and see if the Yamaha device is loaded.

Could be corrupt drivers or conflicts in settings.

thanks pbwarrior

this let me to the problem. all the nt4 pc i manage have sound blaster sound cards installed so it was a suprise to find a yamaha drive installed as well. have now removed yamaha drivers and problem has gone away.
