I just brought this drive, SCISI 16/10/40 but it had the Yamaha burning software missing!!
Thing is I am using the latest Roxio, Easy CD creater 5 Platinum, I don't like it much, the first time I did a Data copy on the fly it bombed giving me a buffer underun at 98%
My question is that it didn't say BURN PROOF ACTIVATED or anything similar like my 16x liteon did and I know others do.
I know that the Yamaha uses it's own version of Burn proof,it calls it something else, and I also know it has a massive 8mb buffer, is it because I am NOT using the dedicated Yamaha software or something that supports the Yamy writer?? buffer.

Is the Yamaha cdrw a burnproof writer as its the writer thats burnproof not the software. you may want to try Nero. another thing i f find with my 12x writer is that my HD's cant keep up with the cdrw if i write at 12x and i get Buffer underruns, so i write at 8 speed usualy with no problems. the other main thing is not to do anything on your pc that causes alot of disk access.

Paparazi,
the problem is not with the Roxio 5. You don't need some special software to match your CD-RW. You can run any kind of CD-RW Burning software, and it should work excellent.

I have the EXACT same burner, and I run Adaptec 4.05. I have also used the ROXIO 5.0 with mine. NO problems.
I suspect the problem lies in your system configuration, maybe with how you have the SCSI chain configured, or drivers,,,,,,,, something like that.

However, RFBaker made some good suggestions ( I think), about running software in the background while you are burning. Also, since you have the ROXIO 5, you should run the TOOLS and test,,,,,,, to make sure that your hard drives are fast enough.
You have a 16X SCSI,,,,, maybe your old IDE hard drive isn't keeping up ?

> Try running at a slower speed,,,,, say a 8X burn.
> SHUT DOWN everything that is running in the background,,,,, like AV software, and all the junk on your SYSTRAY before you burn,,,,, and just let it burn without touching your computer.

Good luck.

Thanks guys! but I don't run anything whilst I'm burning and I have a new Seagate Barracuda IV 7,200 40 gig, very fast!
Also 512mb ram on a 1200 Athlon
This is my third Burner so I am no novice to the subject
As I said my Liteon 16X(which was only a month old) when I swopped it plus cash for this Yamaha, never batted an eye lid writing on the fly at 16X
The only reason I changed was I had CDRom and Liteon Writer on the same IDE cable so I thought the SCISI interface would be better to avoid any data transfer problems.
Last but not least, not that I would do it but these writers are supposed to work whilst you are doing other things at the same time!
I thought that the days had gone when you had to turn off EVERYTHING whilst burning, including screen savers, but as I said I don't do anything whilst burning anyway!! Matin
