Yahoo Store

Hello,

Does anyone have any experience using Yahoo store as an ecommerce solution? I'm thinking about the Merchant Solution standard package that costs $99.95/month plus a 1% transaction fee. This would be used for a store that currently is a brick and mortar gift store and wants to break into selling online.

On the surface Yahoo looks pretty good. Any opinions?

Keep in mind that that 1% is on TOP of a processor's fees. You still need a processor to handle it. We have a few customers on it - some have changed because Yahoo seems to nickel & dime them for everything.

What do you mean by processor fees?

Also, what did your customers switch to?

Well you need a merchant account as well - let's say that their discount rate is 2.5%. So you are paying the 2.5% to the processor & then you are paying 1% to Yahoo. (

Yahoo is good for some starters I think. But they do charge you for everything - once you start to get down to the nitty-gritty:

And usually with $99 a month, you can get a lot more disk space than just 350M. I think it is the hosting fees that are the most outrageous.

Some have moved over to other hosting companies & changed from Payment Tech's merchant account. Some have come over to us for hosting

Thanks for the info. The other reason I like Yahoo though is because they provide a catalog feature that seems easy to set up. I know how to use Dreamweaver, Photoshop, MS Access, etc. but I don't know any server-side technology to link the database to the web site. This seemed like the easiest solution to that.

It could be pretty fast but do your due diligence in cost.

How many items do you have? Are you in the US? What do you think your average transaction would be? How many transactions a month?

Do a search in the yahoo stores for things that you sell. If you find that you are not competitive with those stores, then don't do it. Also, make sure that your store site looks decent. It goes a long way to making people believe that you are reputable.
