Hi Guys,

I have a customer that has requested a YA server to be installed, this is not an issue - what they are after is to use USB handsets.... NOT headsets.

I have purchased a few of these and the quality is very poor, i.e. speech very distorted this is not due to vlan's or network issues as this works fine with headsets.

They require handsets as they still want the poeple to think they will be using handsets for some reason...??

My question really is.... have any of you used USB Handsets and have not had any issues with quality..!!!

Cheers

Andy

I have bad quality on all the IBM ThinkPADs. It's funny becuase I use a Cisco Softphone for a couple of other customers, and the quality is amazing on the same machine. NewHeights, the people that make YA say that the IBM's are known for pour VoIP quality.

When I switch to a USB device, my audio quality is 100%. I use (SO SORRY) Nortel's USB to Handset converter (WITH MITEL'S SS 4000 HANDSET) and it works very well.

I have not been able to find a USB to HANDSET converter, but then again I haven't looked very hard.

There is a chance that sound settings of YA messed up by USB sound device. YA using MITEL phone emulator which creates another sound device, so check which is default for your system. Connect the USB handset, go to system audio settings and assign USB as a default device to play and record.

I find USB has better quality (digital) then the regular (analog) card on my laptop.

Hi we have The yaw server here in Montreal.
We have 50 user license and use only one license.
We used a combination of USB handsets and plantronics headsets, USB and mini jack.

All users are on laptops maxed out with 2 gig ram and running XP fully patched, our people refuse to use the YAW assistant.

This product is BLOAT WARE at its best.
we have tried to get a lighter version from Mitel but they are useless. Once sold , they no longer care about our problems with it.

They all sound like crap. To a point we cant use it anymore

If you are looking to set up a yaw server, my best advise is DONT. SAVE your Time and money
Blue screen of death , computers lagging, calls sound like CRAP, lagg BIG LAG
( latency) Our network is fast, we don’t even use 10 % of our bandwidth so its not congestion.

If you MUST use this piece of what ever… u can find USB handsets on EBAY for about 15 to 20 a set.

They are as good as the 200 Dollar set of Plantronics we bought.

Tell us what you really think Montrealguy...

(you echo my feelings exactly)

Heads up people who love YA and want to enable Mitai Monitoring for Presence on the Client PC's.

The 3300 has a Max of 1000 Mitai monitors.

YA Sets up monitors on all Prime Lines AND Non-Prime Lines on the system.

I have a system with 400 phones and the Presence beat the C**P out of the system.

Anything requiring Mitai went with it including my 6510 voicemail.

You were warned.
