XTOD printing to HP printer

I am trying to print to a HP4200 using the xtod command. It prints but i am unable to compress the output. Anyone know what is the proper syntax. I have tried the following
xtod | lp -oc -dprint1 and also
xtod | lp -s -dpirnt1

any help is grealy appreciated.
