I have a couple of x440 machines with standard Broadcom NIC and additional Intel Pro 1000 NICs.

Machine BIOS Ver 1.6, 4L Array Ver 5.10.21
Ghost Enterprise 7.5
NDIS Versions:
Broadcom b57.dos v1.19
Intel Pro 1000 e1000.dos dated 03/04/2002

Problem:
The broadcom NIC throws machine code to the screen after loading netbind (unfortunately I'm not currently able to read this).

The PRO 1000s appear to initialise OK but ghost doesn't find a local multicast server even when the IP address is specified. So close dammit!

I've read previous discussion in this forum regarding the x345 and ghost and have tried boot disk initiation settings as follows:
Win 98 OS
Config.sys:

device=himem.sys
device=emm386.exe noems i=b000-b7ff
dos=high,umb
files=100
buffers=30
DEVICEhigh=\net\protman.dos /I:\net
DEVICEhigh=\net\dis_pkt.dos
DEVICEhigh=\net\E100B.dos
lastdrive=z

autoexec.bat:

smartdrv.exe /x
@echo off
\net\netbind.com
ghost

Have not had any problem with some x335 servers using the onboard Broadcom NICs for the same project but these x440 machines are driving me nuts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers - The Moth

Try to force the Linespeed to 100 Mbit Halfduplex.
You can find the parameters how to configure this in the original DOS Protocol.ini, which is included in the downloaded DOS device driver.

We got the same problems, until I decrease the linespeed to 100 Halfduplex. You can set it slower (10 Half or Fullduplex) but Ghost 7.5 seems not to be able to work with a higher Speed.
(Or I didn't find the way)

I had a similiar issue with the e1000 - Intel Pro Nic Card in DELL GX270 - I had to use a network boot disk via tcp/ip and map to a network resource... Here is what I have

It was created using the Symantec Ghost Boot Wizard from 7.5 (via MS_DOS - not IBM-DOS) - and modified it to use the correct Dos drivers and changed it to use TCP/IP instead of Netbeui

Here is the config.sys

DEVICEHIGH=HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=EMM386.EXE noems i=b000-b7ff
DOS=HIGH,UMB
files=100
buffers=30
DEVICEhigh=\net\protman.dos /I:\net
rem DEVICEhigh=\net\dis_pkt.dos
DEVICEhigh=\net\E1000.dos
DEVICEhigh=\net\nemm.dos
DEVICEhigh=\net\tcpdrv.dos
lastdrive=z
DEVICEHIGH=A:\ifshlp.sys

Here is the Autoexec.bat

@ECHO OFF
SET PATH=a:\net;a:\;
cd \net
a:\net\net initialize
a:\net\netbind.com
a:\net\umb.com
a:\net\tcptsr.exe
a:\net\tinyrfc.exe
a:\net\nmtsr.exe
a:\net\emsbfr.exe
a:\net\net start
A:\NET\NET.EXE USE Y: \\images\ghost (use your Server Name and Share - where the ghost.exe is share out as network resource)
A:\NET\NET.EXE USE x:\\images\files (your path here as well)

The only issue is that when running the ghost.exe - y:\ghost.exe (y is mapped to \\images\ghost) - You must use Ghost.exe -FNI to keep if from freezing (see for more info ... If anyone needs a copy - email me at jip98@acs.org and I will send the files
