I have new pc with WinXP Pro w/SP2.

I would like to setup a dual boot with Win2000, is this possible. Anyone have a link that shows the steps to follow etc?

I have searched online only to find outdated info.

Thanks in advance.

It's really not very difficult.

First You would need to setup all the Partitions you want, using preferrably a third party app, like Partition Magic.

Then once you have them the way you like, you set the boot order to boot from CD first and put in your Windows 2000 CD. Install Windows 2000 on the C: drive, and once it is up and running, install Windows XP, by booting with its CD , and following the Setup. the XP setup will then create the bootloader.

You might also want to take a look at this page.

Hope this helps.

Wether Windows 2000 and XP can coexist in a single system, I have 3 systems with that arrangement functioning perfectly.

So I would say that yes they can coexist. But always install WinXP after 2000 or any other Windows for that matter.

I currently have WinXP installed, do I need to install 2000 over XP and then install WinXP again?

It would have been easier to have 2000 pro installed and then install XP on a second partition. You will need to create a new partition for 2000 pro. If you have used the whole drive for XP. You can make a new partition using administrative tools> computer management> disk management>
You can make the partition about 8Gig. Format it NTFS.
Using Microsoft's power tool tweakui. If you do not have this power tool you can down load it at:
You need to hide the partition XP is on so it will not boot to XP or see the XP to install an older os.
look here:

*Be sure to back up the Registry before proceeding
After hiding the partition reboot the computer with the 2000 pro installation disk in the cd drive. Install 2000 pro.
After installation you will have to unhide the partition XP is on.
Then you will need to fix the boot configuration to have the option to boot from either OS.
