In my experience, you can access files, but it's just a bit messy.
You can to browse to \\servername and then enter domain\username & password when prompted. Then you can access the shares directly or Map network drives.
You could write a .bat file that maps network drives to the server using "NET USE" and put this in the 'startup' folder in XPHome but you would have to put the username/password details in the .bat file hence this isn't at all secure!
Maybe you could also try using a VPN over the LAN network. I haven't tried this (don't if know if XPHome even lets you connect via VPN) but that could work in theory.
Well, nSanto17, dotobi and 58sniper thanks for your replys.
Now. Lets say I can work with XPHome using the .bat file to connect, we can live with that meanwhile we upgrade to vista business (and reload our PCs).
BUT, does SQL Server 2005 Workgroup (included in SBS R2 Premium) can be accesed by this XPHome machines running a .Net application?
As others have suggested, it should work but it could be a little "clunky" in terms of having to establish a connection manually using the batch file first. Other than that, I don't see why XP Home would have any problem accessing the database on the server.
And to expand on the previous comment, SBS MUST be installed as a domain - failing to do so is a violation of the license agreement and the server will start rebooting itself every hour after about 2 weeks have elapsed from the initial install.
You can work around things with XP Home... you cannot work around things with SBS in a workgroup.
