RTFM of CSS guide says:
language processor error messages have a standard format Pxmmmmnnn-L
so PCOPTN008-s means:
P Cobol mod=OPTN msg#8 Severe-error
It also says:
Pxmmmm008-S Language not determined, processing may not be complete.
Explanation:The version of the compiler cannot be determined from
the first header of the listing. This may be due to an error in the
CWPPRTI file or because the header record does not match the formats
coded. This can also occur if the compiler listing input to
the postprocessor is the wrong language (for example, Assembler or
PL/I).
You guys are basically correct - thanks - the systems programmer decided to update the sytem to cobol complier 3.3.0 and "somehow it got changed xpeditor" to 3.3.1 - of course, he never notified anyone that he was altering the environment.
In the age old way of things, the Systems Programmer will need to lubricate your throat with vast quantities of alcohol in order to obtain forgiveness. But whatever you do, do not give in to his/her challenges of a game on the golf/snooker/millionaire/space invaders etc. machine, as they will have undoubtedly hacked into it beforehand.
