I feel so foolish...ive done this 100 times (with w2k, not XP)...but this system just wont DO it...
Im trying to connect an XP HOME system to our network, get a DHCP address, and have internet access through our DSL connection...(like the rest of the network)
XP system gets its IP address from DHCP server just fine, including DNS server address, gateway, etc...
ipconfig /all shows IDENTICAL information as every other system on the network (except IP address of course).
I can ping our server by ip (not by name), I can ping the gateway, I can even ping our EXTERNAL ip address (on the WAN port of the router).
However I cannot get any further than our external IP, I find it strange that I can get to our external IP, but no further. In order to ping my external IP from inside the network, wouldnt I have to hit at least one hop at our ISP and then back to our router?
I cannot ping my ISP's DNS servers, or the gateway address assigned to our external IP assigned by the ISP.
The XP firewall is off, and no ICS is in place.
Heres a copy/paste from our routers setup screen:
Cable/DSL : CONNECTED
WAN IP : 204.xxx.xxx.xxx <-- can ping
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.128
Gateway IP : 204.116.113.129 <-- Cannot ping
DNS : 192.168.0.2 <-- Can ping
Secondary DNS : 206.74.254.2 <-- Cannot ping
My internal servers address is 192.168.0.2 (w2k server running DNS and DHCP), the router is 192.168.0.1.
IPconfig from the afflicted machine looks like this:

This machine might have other problems...and I may be looking at a reinstall...
Is it possible that all this information is correct and it "just wont work" due to a corruption somehwere?
(oh, and I have used the Winsock rebuilding tool listed in another thread, winsockfix.zip, to no avail)
We do run a domain here, but this machine is not a member of our domain, nor should it be (im just troubleshooting it for a friend). Im not trying to use any network shares, or resources, im just trying to connect to the internet through our router.
Thanks in advance.
