Ok... I am actually setting up 3 sperate vpns but the problem is with all of them individually.

I am using XP server and client for the VPN on both sides. I have opened the appropriate ports on the routers for a pptp vpn. I connect fine from one end to the other...

Once connected computers on the lan can ping the computer's new ip address who is connecting from the internet. However the problem is neither the computer coming from the internet nor the computers on the lan can see each other on the peer to peer network. I have file sharing and client for microsoft networks on both sides configured, and the computers are in the same workgroup. Also when i do a net view from console they dont see each other either, so its not just a problem with the gui browsing. I'm stumped, if anyone can help please feel free. I would have rather used hardware solution but it's not for me, and this is how my client wants it.
Thanks for any input.

OK... update... if I actually know the name of the computer i can see it... like if i do \\computername in a gui window adress i can see it, or if i do net view computername it will show shares, but they still dont show up in the net view or the gui browser even after being able to see them like this. I have no problem doing this, but the people using it may... I think it may have to do with adding something to the hosts file, but since i have a router on boths sides with pptp open and a comp with a local adress behind the NAT i'm not sure what to enter...
again
Thanks for any help
mike

mmm. Not sure without trying it. Are you logging each machine onto the same domain? If you are have you tried selecting logon using dialup networking at the logon screen and logging on with the VPN?

I'll have a play with this and let you know anythnig I find.

Like i said its peer to peer network so there is no domain just a workgroup, and yes im using the built in VPN xp deal... I don't particularly like it but hey its what they want... I'm using it both to host and as client side.
