hello all

on one of my networked PC's, you hit the shut down button and it goes through the reboot mode. any ideas?? have to physically power down the PC to get it off!!! ideas please

regards

Nick

If the affected PC has Windows XP or 2000, look in Event Viewer for any errors during the time a shutdown was initiated. By default, these OS' are configured to automatically restart the PC after any error is detected (rather than blue screen). This includes errors detected during shutdown.

The Automatic Restart can be turned off by right-clicking My Computer, Properties, Advanced tab, Startup and Recovery

If it is XP, try going to a command prompt, and use this command:

"shutdown -s -t 0" (no quotes)

This should shut down the machine immediately..

'When all else fails.......read the manual'

You might also check the BIOS, to make sure that "Auto power on" isn't turned on.

Make sure your Power Options (Control Panel) are correct in relation to what you have set it for when the button is pressed. It might be set to restart instead of power off?
