I re-formatted and re-installed XP, ever since then, when I put a cd into either of my cd-roms, the PREVIOUS CD still shows in explorer. This is very frustrating, the only way I can work around it is to eject the cd, click on the drive icon and insert the cd when I get the "please insert CD" dialogue box. I went through this before and I beleive it was a registry "fix" I had to do, but I can't remember how I did it. Any suggestions?

In My Computer, right-click on the drive and set the Autoplay parameter for each CD type to something besides take no action. Check the box for prompting to select the action required for each CD type.

I have just performed a full install of XP-Pro. I observed that inserting a new CD in one of the 2 CD drives the program being started is of the last CD inserted. Today I started eliminating programs being started by using "msconfig".
stopping NERO INCD solved the problem.
Just to verify, I started and stopped INCD several times, the retention of prior data tracked when INCD was running.
On another machine INCD did not exhibit retaining prior CD data.
NERO Version 6 is currently installed with INCD Version 4.0.1.21
The post by bcastner did not correct the problem.

XP does not have native packet writing support, so there would be no option to set for packet writing.

InCD is the culprit. I know there is a registry fix for this somewhere, but I'll turn off Incd for now. The problem was supposed to be solved in SP1, but I have all of the updates (sp1 included) and it's not fixed. I read the MS article on this also. Thanks for all of the reply's.

I Googled 'xp nero incd problem' and returned over 1500 replies.

The issue is clearly InCD, and I do not believe a registry "fix" is available.

It appears from the discussion to be an issue with the UDF driver used by Nero.

Hi,

I've got this problem since about 3-months and running build 2600.xpsp2.030422-1633 (Service Pack 1).

When I insert the first CD-disk that goes fine. But when I insert the second CD-disk. And this happens on both of my CD-ROM drives, an Asus 52-speed and my old HP9110i-CDRW. The content of the first is still displayed in Explorer.
When I insert the second CD-disk I see that the CD-ROM drive isn't always approached either by WINXP Pro.
Hence I would think it doesn't Read the CD. But when I remove the disk and do a eject/insert with no CD and then after that install the second disk. It reads it fine.

This problem is most annoying when using multiple disk installs, has they fail because the second disk content isn't read by Explorer.

I've read the Microsoft Tech-Bulletin.

And I have SP1 installed.

I've tried changing the Autoplay options. Removed the Drives from System Setup.

Sofar no luck in getting this fixed with some simple action. A complete Reinstall of WinXP or Removal of SP1 i expect is another BillG On Elmstreet nightmare ;-).

My good old system as still survived fine all the upgrades from Win98, WinME to WINXP Pro. This must be something still with WinXP that is bugging me.
