VPN - XP.pro via internet using vpn to XP.pro ?

1:
1 computer running on XP Pro The router in the one place is Linksys BEFVP41 Ether Fast Cable/DSL VPN Router. Internet via Cable.
2:
Home: XP pro with Cable modem connected via - tcp.ip (networkcard) to the internet.

I will connect them both ways - from the office to home - and from home to the office. Can I do that??

Any tips - of links is a great help. Microsoft..., they only explain xp to 2000 (server) and linksys do not respond!!!!

Step by step ?

I've done this successfully via the following steps:

1. Set each machine so that its private IP information is static and not dynamically set by the DHCP server built into the router. (you may need to change the range of IP addresses on the routers so that your static addresses are not part of the address pool)

2. Forward port 1173 on both routers to the private static IP address you assigned each machine

3. Configure each of your XP machines to receive incoming VPN calls. This is pretty simple to figure out and there are several links on the web which explain how to do this.

4. Configure each of your XP machines with a network connection that dials out to the other XP machine. Again, this is relatively simple to do and instructions can be found many places on the web.

5. Almost forgot. Set both routers to enable PPTP pass through in the general settings page of the router web interface

6. I like to enable NetBEUI on any machine I use as a server so that I can map drive letters with a dos batch file. If you intend on doing this, you will need to install the NetBEUI protocol on both your XP machines as it is not installed by default.
