Hello !

I had 512 mb (256+128+128 Dimm's) and i changed one of 128 to 256 (256+256+128).
The motherboard take it ok, but Win xp hangs up.

The machine:
PIII 800 Mhz
Mother Asus cuv4x

thanks in advance !!!

I dont know if this is strictly true with all RAM, but I have always been told that having more than 512MB RAM can do more harm than good to a computer - so try taking out the stick of 128MB RAM

I suspect its incompatible memory. Keep swaping the sticks until it becomes stable.

Another thing you could do is download this shareware memory tester You need a blank floppy disk to create a dos disk to run it on bootup.

This proggy finds errors that other memory testers fail to find. It finds incompatible memory as well as failed memory.

Having loads of memory doesn't harm anything....other than your wallet. Tez

Backups are great but checking if you can restore is more fun.

I tried this. First i took out 128 mb Dimm, fine! works !(my old 256 dimm+ my new 256 dimm), but when i put the 128 Dimm (in order: 256+256+128) Win xp hangs up (i tried with another (3) 128 mb sticks, the same that were working)
