XP pro network win 98

Running win xp pro on network together with win 98, when i try to view the
workstations in " view network computers" it takes about 1.5 mins before
they apear, if you try my netwok places the shared items on the network
apear straight away. I am using 3 com network cards and switch. all pc's
ping ok.

Any help please.

One of the 'downsides' of WinXP Pro or Win2000 versus Win9x/ME is the security and permissions, does tend to slow down reading/accessing the network and reading drives.

I had the exact same problem earlier when i put an XP and 98 machine together.

Is it because of the Firewall setting under the network properties?

Any way to make the network access faster?
