[XP Pro] Laptop is taking 1hr to load up

I need my laptop running ASAP without doing a fresh install of windows xp pro unless I have no choice. I have tried to reinstall windows but still, the load up screen is still ~1hr long. Before the problem, it was only a matter of seconds before the laptop booted up.

This laptop has Windows Server 2003 OS installed as well and the last thing that I did on that OS was I uninstalled Exchange 2003. But I don't think I could've done anything to cause this long boot up as XP is on C drive and Windows Server 2003 is on D drive.

What is going on?? The only thing that I could remember that could've caused this was that I selected 'Windows XP Pro' during the OS boot menu and I let it load for a couple seconds and then I restarted the laptop.

After 1hr of loading up, the laptop runs fine but everytime I restart the laptop it takes ~1hr to load up.

How can I fix this problem and what might be causing this problem??

ps. I just recently disabled hibernation b/c I thought it was hibernation that was causing the problem. Safe mode takes ~1hr to load up too.

Have you tried checking the hard drive for errors. via the GUI (Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.), or in your case it might be quicker to run ChkDsk /r from the Recovery Console?

The hard drive manufacturer will also have free diagnostic software to thoroughly check out the condition of the drive.

Are there any errors in the Event Viewer?

Enable Boot Logging via Safe Mode.

"Starts while logging all the drivers and services that were loaded (or not loaded) by the system to a file. This file is called ntbtlog.txt and it is located in the %windir% directory. Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, and Safe Mode with Command Prompt add to the boot log a list of all the drivers and services that are loaded. The boot log is useful in determining the exact cause of system startup problems".

Also check the path variable - it may be pointing to somewhere on a network that no longer exists.

Hard drive has no errors. Windows Server 2003 boots up fine. I ran the hard drive check via GUI and it was fine.

One relevant error in Event Viewer:
The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume C:.

I'll give that a try when I get home as I can't afford to restart the laptop in school.

Btw, I enabled hibernation again and the system starts up fine when I shutdown the computer in hibernation mode.

How do I check the path variable to see if there's anythhing point to a network that no longer exists?

1) Type 'cmd' then press the ENTER key in the 'Start > Run' dialog to start a new command console.

2) Type 'path' then press the ENTER key to see what paths are in use.

I ran chkdsk /r in recovery console and it fixed some problems but the problem still exists.

My variable path is good.

Also, I googled for 'mailKmd.SYS' and couldn't find anything.
