XP Pro Installation Problem

Bought new Hard drive 200 GB, made 3 partions first 70 GB format NTFS. Removed old HD and new one is master now, when i start XP installation it goes up to copying all files and then "Remove any floppy disk from drive "A:/" and system will reboot in 20 seconds" after restart, it starts again copying files and same all like Press F8 to accept terms and where to install etc etc... i tried several time and all the time same things hapening. How i can solve this problem.

If you are using an XP CD without Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2 already integrated, you will not be able to install to a 200gb disk.

its XP Pro SP 2, and i made 3 partions, C:/ is 70 GB.

afer the first time the files are copied and the machine re-starts, you need to take the cd out of the cd-rom drive.

yes i did this too, then i got message "Operating system not found".

you have 3 partitions. did you format? which one did the xp files were copied to? did the install process go through copying, installing, registering, etc?

3 partions, yes i format NTFS. at start it copies files from cd to c:\windows. after copuing it says system will reboot in 20 seconds remove any flopy from drive A:\. after rebooting it starts same procedure whater ever done before and if i remove CD it says no OS found on system.

Watch out for drive enumeration confusion; drive "C" may not be on your new disk at all.

XP cannot boot from a non-primary, non-active partition.

Further, what kind of disk is it? If SCSI or SATA, you need to introduce the disk drivers prior to beginning the actual installation. You use the F6 key when prompted.

If you have connected your old drive up as slave without wiping it, then xp set up will see that as a C:\ drive, even though it is not primary, after diskmanager has set up and assigned all the drives it finds. I have just had a similar problem after replacing my hard drive. Disconnect the old drive, then do your install.

Are you pressing the "Any Key" apart from the first boot of the XP CD. If you are then XP will restart the whole Setup procedure if you keep selecting "boot from CD" option.

Echoing ASG0856 - if the old drive was still in machine when you started installation, that's your problem.

I'd just start the install again - use XP install's partitioning tools to remove all existing partitions. Then create single new 70GB partition and install into that (you can easily partition the rest by running diskmgmt.msc when XP is up and running).

PS. 99% of the time I'd use XP install's partitioning tools to create/delete partitions - not do it ahead of time with 3rd party offering.

naveedus6 - I had this problem once before, and it turned out that my Epson printer (which has memory card reader slots) was the issue. After the first reboot, it was trying to boot from the non-existant usb drive (the memory card reader on the printer), and would tell me that it couldn't find the OS. I unplugged the printer from the computer, and it installed just as it should. Maybe not the issue, but something to look at...
