XP Pro CRTL+ALT+DELETE Two Different Windows Displayed

On my PC at home running Windows XP Professional [Version 5.1 (Build 2600_xpsp_sp3_gdr.050301-1519 ; Service Pack 2) when I depress CRTL+ALT+DELETE the “Windows Security” window is displayed presenting me with the “Lock Computer” button.

On my PC at the office running Windows XP Professional [Version 5.1 (Build
2600_xpsp_sp3_rtm.040803-2158 ; Service Pack 2) when I depress CRTL+ALT+DELETE the “Windows Task Manager” window is displayed and the “Shut Down” menu had no item to “Lock Computer.” The PC at my office is a workstation on a Windows 2003 Server network.

I want my PC at the office to display the “Windows Security” window or give me the “Lock Computer” option.

This may be a group policy that is disallowing you to "lock" your workstation. I would ask the technical group if there is a policy in place to block this option.

I looked at a standaone PC whose Windows XP version was the same as mine and depressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete displayed the task manager not thee security screen. Some wokstations on the network at work display the task manager other the security screen. The Windows Key+L key will does not siplay the Security screen unless some setting on the PC or workstation is correclty configured. If the appropriate setting is configured properly the security window is displayed if not you are logged off the network but not the workstation.

DOes anyine have any idea what the setting is called and how to find the setting?

Have you tried the windows key and L together?

This may have something to do with whether Fast User Switching is selected on a Standalone machine or not selected. In a Domain setting Fast User Switching is not available.

In Fast User Switching, the use/result of Ctrl+Alt+Del may vary if used at the INITIAL Login Screen and that of any subsequent Login Screen caused by other actions which return you to a Logon box/screen. You will get the Security Logon Box at the Initial Logon but not at later logon screens.

I found the solution was to disable the Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching

Control Panel --> User Accounts --> Change the way users log on or off --> Disable the Welcome Screen (This disables User Fast Switching if enabled.)

Asking a question, rejecting the solutions of others and answering the question is puffing up your sails with your own wind.
