Going crazy!
Have Win XP Pro with ATI 8500 DV on Asus a7a266 athlon motherboard. I have 1 gig Ram. 80 gig hd, lots of free space.
I just recently installed XP AGAIN after hard drive crash.
New hard drive 80 gig.
XP would croak if I moved the mouse until I installed latest and greatest ATI drivers. (Ugh. never again ati.)
Still croaks in safe mode if I even move the mouse. I think this is because ati drivers not installed.
Okay, if I boot with the drivers installed it works for the most part.
Then I installed MS Outlook 2000. Went ok, but if I add an account, I get to the password section and zzzzt, freeze. Every time.
Uninstalled, reinstalled doesnt matter.
I dont think it is outlook, I think it is the stupid mouse/keyboard freeze issue.
Sysinfo shows no conflicts, though I do see irq being shared by soundblaster and netcar. Still windows reports no problems.
Have updated all vid drivers.
Updated bios on mother board.
Updated AGP drivers for motherboard.
Diabled any agp fast writes caches or other features in bios that might cause agp conflict.
Pulled out all of my hair.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

PS2 intellimouse explorer. Have updated drivers for it too!

What messages, if any, do you see in the Event logs?

I don't know what I did to make it work...so far...but it has been working for the last hour without freezing.

As previously mentioned, I installed agp driver updates.
I updated the motherboard bios.
I updated the ati videocard drivers.
None of this worked.
Then updated sound card drivers.
Mouse drivers.
Got worse. Hung when I moved the mouse at all.
Soooo...
I rebooted, put xp disk in and reinstalled as an upgrade.
during install xp coughed up a few error messages about improper drivers should I install them. I said no.
Did this about 3 times. Then continued install.
When it finally came back it was working.
Was able to use programs and mouse (ohmygod!) with freezing. Amazing, its just like a computer now.
Thanks to all who helped. I'll let you know if it dies.

Didn't think to look at events, but will do so in the future if it dies again.

Thanks again.
