Please - I have tried searching for this a number of ways and found nothing. If it DOES exist in here, somebody just tell me where to look.

I want to make my PC (XP PRO) a web server on our intranet, accessible via other [physical] clients just for testing new/revised web services.

Is XP capable of this? Where are directions for this?

TIA,
Ron

IIS is included in XP Pro, but not installed by default. You might need to go to Add & Remove Windows Components. Alternatively, you could also install Apache web server.

Sorry - I need to explain a bit more...

I have IIS installed, as I am working in .NET building web services. I can already get to my "//localserver".

I want to make my PC open to other users in order to test these services.

You can just have your users open a web browser and type the IP address of the machine you want to use as a web server.
Two things to keep in mind.
1.If you are running Window firewall, you will have to modify it to let port 80 traffic in.
2.I do believe you can only have 5 concurrent clients attach to an XP box. When number 6 tries to connect, it will be denied.

Just thought I'd let you know... I was able to get this to work fine this morning and superjet - you gave me the clues I needed.

I could not access my server via IP and I'm not sure why, but I was able to access it by computer name.

But, I also realized that I had to point my little test app reference (for the new service) to that computername - not "localserver" - which became obvious as I thought that through. All day yesterday I had been trying to do it via the IP and just had a mental block about trying the computername option.

Anyway - thanks
