I have a customer and friend that has a machine running Windows XP Home. She can print a few documents then she has to reboot to be able to print again. Then it starts all over again.

The driver has been unistalled and reinstall several times. I have even downloaded the latest drivers from HP.

She thought the problem was the printer so she bought a new one. The problem however continued. In fact her old printer her husband now uses and has no problems. I thought the problem might be the cable or USB port. So I replaced the cable and tried another port. However again the problem continued.

I told her I thought the harddrive should be reformated, but she does not want to do that. She said it is a pain in the rump, I must agree. Saving files and such, which I'm capable of doing. However if we can fix this issue with out formating I want to follow her wishes.

I believe thier may be a problem with the print spooler service although I have not tried by passing it by printing directly to the printer. Is it possible to unistall and reinstall this service without having to reformat the drive.

Anybody have any other ideas?

I forgot to mention that when she can no longer print the documents are sent to the print cue but that is it. The printing automatically restarts after a system reboot.

About a week ago I changed the print to option to print directly to the printer. It know prints fine with out a problem. She can print as many documents as she wants.

This diffentetly means that there is a print spooler service problem is their a way to uninstall and reinstall this service with out formating and reinstalling windows?
