xp on domain

when i go to add an xp machine to my domain, i get the error "the user name could not be found." what's up with this? i know the user name exists in the smb.passwd file. i checked it myself. what is going on here?
 
Hi,

If you on xp home, then you have a problem to attach to domain. XP pro is fine. Not sure what is work around to xp home problem. try google.

Wow! I might be able to help here!
had this problem also...

- make certain you have both MACHINE and user accounts

adduser MACHINENAME$ <with the dollar sign>
smbpasswd -a -m MACHINENAME <without dollar sign>

use this link to find a patch for WXPpro registry


I was able to log onto the domain after adding the registry patch...
