Hello All,

This is for a local [non-networked] pc. I have 5 accounts, myself [administrator] 3 Users and 1 set as a best performance option, lowest graphical settings, minimal background operations etc.

The problem is that I want to set the machine away in a safe place and just have it permaneently switched on ready for anyone to use but I want to run automated system tasks late at night so it doesn't get bogged down after time.

Whilst looking at Disk Cleanup I noticed that when I run it [as administrator] it only cleans my temporary internet files, non of the other accounts. At the moment all I can do is get each of the users to log on and one by one run disk cleanup from their accounts.

Are there any settings/options to enable an administrator to have privilages over other accounts with regards to performing system tasks such as disk cleanup??

Hope you can help as I sure am stuck!!

There are policy objects to handle this chore in a Domain setting, but there is hope.

You need to take ownership of c:\Documents and Settings with the Administrator Group. Then add back the individual user and/or Users Group to either the whole folder or individual user profile folders.

I should also note two other issues:

1. A permissions issue of sorts:
2. You might depending on the state of the machine when the backup runs and permissions issues, consider using the XP feature know as RUNAS when creating the scheduled task or if you edit existing tasks.

I know the last message dealt with backup, but after cleanup it seemed logical that scheduling backups was a likely next step.

Dont forget this one.

Internet Explorer/ Tools/ Advanced/ Settings/ Security -

Check the box to Empty Temporary Internet Files when Browser is closed.

Many thanks for the quick replies guys, I will look into the link you left bcastner as it sounds a more interesting way of addressing the problem.

As for you linney, probably the easier route to take and in many cases probably the best but I may decide that I only want disk cleanup run once a week allowing storage of temporary internet files during that period.

The main problem is that I will schedule Sophos to run every night and temporary internet files sloooooow it right down.

I'll let you know how I get on.
