have upgraded on of the workstations on a small network of 4 computers to XP pro.
The server is just a win98se machine running a peer to peer network.
When i try to browse in a program that the data is on the server (win98se machine) it takes a good 20 sec. but once I have found what im looking for everythink is very quick......
Does any body have a clue y/...

When i load up win explorer I can see the mapped drives to this info almost instantly.

Ya I have auto update on with xp and SP1 should be going fine...
any other help

Should there be any special network setting for this network
Client for micr
File and print share for micr
Qos Packet Scheduler
Internet Protocal (TCP/IP)

and under Authentication
I have enable IEEE ticked

Yes a linksys router ****41
it has up to date firmware as of last night
no change

I have moved the folder to another machine running XP and still no change.

Have you checked the configuration page of the Linksys settings??<type 192.68.1.1 in your browser window> From there you want to carefully check all your options to make sure they are correct.

Here are some links that will help you with your router:

On that last link is Linksys Support, select the model of your router and check for any options that might tell you how to speed up the router. Enkrypted

Our network here works great except this one senerio
Is there something special to look at.
As everything else is lightning quick.

I have been having a similar problem only it was with a w2k and win 9x machine. turn off the task scheduler on the 98 machine and see if it makes a diference. It didnt work for my situation but you never know, someone in another post told me about it. Good luck.
