Hello all,
I'm new to Tek-Tips. Although I do belong to Eng-Tips.
I have been having an on going issue with my XP network (which is based on a Dell Inspiron 8200). The issue is when I open up my network Connections I have 3 things listed, sometimes 4.
1) Local Area Connection 2
2) 1394 Connection
3) Network Bridge
4) Internet Connection - This only shows when the above 3 is working correctly.
In the past I have had this working great. All 3 options would run and then the 4th would run and I could connect to the internet without a problem.
But lately I have been seeing something very strange. If I RMB the Network Bridge and uncheck Local Connection and 1394 Connection, click OK. My Networks bridge gets and "X" in it. Which tells me that it's not running. But by doing this, it is the only way I can get my internet connection to work. Before I had to have those options check marked. If I RMB the Network bridge (after I do the above) it gives me the option to disable the process. In the area at the bottom right corner I have the icons listed down there. It says the "Network Connection is unplugged".
I'm confused on why it shows icons and I have unchecked options that would normally make it stop working. But yet it continues to work. This is the second time I have had to reset up my network connections and I really don't want to have to do it a third time...? I don't find it nearly as easy to setup, as Windows 2000 is.
I have tried rebooting and when I do I have to go back through all this to get my Internet connection back up.
Anyone have any ideas for me to try?
Thanks,
Scott Baugh, CSWP
