This is all taking place on a Dell Vostro200. XP came pre-installed.

Anywho, here is the issue:
Mapped a network drive on this pc, the user was able to view the drive and its contents. Drive was functional as ever, then it grew a mind of its own. The drive will now show up sometimes, then other times it will not (for the past day the drive has not shown up at all). Files from that drive's location are still 100% accessible.

What i know:
-the permissions corresponding with the folder on that drive are correct, full control for that user.
-re-mapped it using different methods, the wizard as well as the command prompt
-The drive used to be displayed in "my network neighborhood", and in "my computer", but like i said, now is gone.

I have read and implemented the advice in some of the other threads on this website, along with "googling" the issue, and i have not come up with a fix that directly relates to my problem.

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome ! ! But, posting previous thread content isn't going to help me that much i dont think. Anyways, much thanks if you've given this a read !

Have you tried remapping the drive to Z: or a driver letter near the end of the list in case there is some confusion with any removable drives and drive letters?

Have you tried looking for your mapped drive while in "Safe Mode with Networking"?

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
